At home, breakfast is important, but when camping, it is essential. You’ll be burning extra calories on a camping or backpacking trip, so the first meal of the day has to give your body plenty of fuel.

To help you keep yourself in line when camping, here are some suggestions for breakfasts:

  • Oatmeal (instant in a variety of flavors)
  • Cold cereal with powdered milk
  • Toaster Pastries (cold)
  • Instant grits
  • Creamed Wheat
  • Eggs (will keep for several days)
  • Bagels with cream cheese (cheese will keep for several days)
  • Snickers or other candy bars
  • Breakfast bars
  • Granola bars
  • Gorp in powdered milk
  • Pancakes (bring the dry mix, add powdered milk and water)
  • Granola in powdered milk
  • Instant hash browns
  • Bacon bars
  • Canned bacon
  • Bread with peanut butter
  • English muffins
  • Raisin bread

What is your favorite camping breakfast? I prefer some good eggs and sausage if I am car camping, however, if backpacking, a bagel or English muffin is an excellent choice!

that’s a really tasty list you have there. I usually just bring beef jerky type stuff, because I’m afraid everything else will spoil, but powdered milk is a great idea.

Glad you like the list, there are a lot of regular meals that you can make into backpacking meals with just a little creative thought!
